UPCOMING EXHIBITION

Aneta Kajzer

Traumlandschaften

Apr 17th, 2026 - May 23rd

104GALERIE (Nakameguro, Tokyo) is holding the solo exhibition “Traumlandschaften” by Aneta Kajzer from April 17 2026. The artist’s second show at the gallery, three years after her first, will feature around 10 pieces, including 8 new works.

Born in 1989 in Katowice, Poland, Kajzer studied art history at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and completed her post-graduate studies at Kunsthochschule Mainz. She is currently based in Berlin, and primarily produces painting work.

Kajzer has always been fascinated by the way in which an image arises from the very act of painting. In this exhibition, images from natural elements like clouds, mountains, and water spread on the canvas like fragments of dreams. On surfaces that may appear as abstract landscapes at a glance, forms evoking some kind of creature or their faces gradually emerge and disappear, blending into their surroundings. In her production, Kajzer works without reference to pre-planned compositions or sketches, instead accepting the movement of the paint and other coincidental occurrences that happen. Her flowing colors and shapes recall natural phenomena or dream worlds, and at the same time appear to fluctuate between the figurative and the abstract. Boundaries between landscape and physicality, inside and outside, are tenuously merged to spread as an open image, unencumbered by predetermined meaning.

The work presented in this exhibition does not follow a specific narrative or clear theme, rather exploring the vagueness and duality within the relationship between humans and nature. It is left to each viewer’s individual sensitivity, memories, and imagination. For instance, in Dune (2026), a face melts into the landscape, while in Big Bang (2025) a ghost-like presence stares back at the landscape – the images feature many different figures that are open to interpretation. Kajzer visited Japan for the first time in 2023 for her inaugural exhibition in Tokyo and traveled around the country. That experience is reflected in this exhibition, through her observation of nature and landscapes. We hope that you enjoy the territory of imagination conjured up by Aneta Kajzer.
