104GALERIE (Nakameguro, Tokyo) is holding Inner Existence by Asa Hiramatsu, her first solo exhibition at the gallery, in the period between July 12th (Sat.) and August 23rd (Sat.) 2025.

Ana Hiramatsu was born in Tokyo in 1982.
She began painting as a self-taught artist, and has been producing work since 2012. While mainly exhibiting oil paintings, she has widened her field of expression through illustrations in newspapers, magazines, and books, and also in writing.
Hiramatsu explains how she has always liked a kind of Japanese lacquerware called negoronuri. In a similar way to how lacquerware holds its beauty through the passage of time, she produces a unique texture that conveys gravity through a process of layering paint, scratching it off, and applying it again.
Hiramatsu has always pursued the depiction of landscapes that exist within herself, expressing primitive and forlorn vistas on her canvas.
In her production to date, she has followed a principle of visualizing these invisible motifs, and continues to
paint subjects such as clouds, seesaws, and lumps of stone, along with lines. However, during creation of the work for this exhibition, she says she was able to access the invisibility within matter she could see for the first time. While painting motifs that she could also touch in reality, not just internal ones, she projected her principle onto creation that dug deeper into her internal landscapes – a new horizon for her as an artist.

This is Hiramatsu’s first solo exhibition at 104GALERIE, following on from her participation in a group exhibition at the gallery in 2024. From 17:00 on July 12th (Sat.), there will be an opening reception with the artist. We would be delighted to see you there.
