Born in the Netherlands in 1974, Verhoeven migrated to the US in 1986.
She completed courses at the San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, US in 1996, the New York Academy of Art, New York, US in 2001, and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam, NL in 2006. She is currently based in Berlin, Germany, creating paintings and three-dimensional pieces.
Her notable solo exhibition was at the Bonnefantenmuseum (Maastricht, NL), but she has also participated in group exhibitions at the Museum Kranenburgh (Bergen aan Zee, NL) and the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (US): her career has garnered a lot of international praise. Her work has been acquired by the Saatchi Collection (UK), the Stadmuseum Berlin – Nikolaikirche (Berlin, Germany), The Essl Collection of Contemporary Art, Essl Museum (Klosterneuburg, Austria), and the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam, NL), amongst many other public and private collections. In addition, since 2008 she has received prestigious awards in Netherland such as the Netherlands Royal Painting Prize, the Wolvecamp Prize, and the ABN-AMRO Art Prize. She has been in the focus of the contemporary art scene, as evidenced by her solo exhibitions in the 2018 Art Basel and the June Art Fair in 2021 (both Basel, Switzerland).
