104GALERIE (Ikejiri-Ohashi, Tokyo) is holding a new exhibition by Robert Bosisio, “BEYOND”, between the 10th and the 29th May 2021. Located in 104GALERIE-R, this is the second exhibition by the artist at the gallery, three years after the last one. It will consist of 13 pieces, ranging from small studies to the large-scale painting.

Beyond doors, faces, bodies and space.
Imagining and perceiving anew different, unexpected horizons.
-Robert Bosisio

Similar to the first exhibition, held in 2018, the works on display are paintings of interiors, portraits, and close-ups of bodies, in various sizes. These unchanging motifs demonstrate that Bosisio has pursued his theme steadily. However, the expression in the pieces exhibited seems more solid and less bright in color, creating a stronger impression of stillness as a whole. This sense of tranquility is the very facet that brings out the power of his work, and what draws us into profound conversations. What Bosisio’s work realizes is a return to the fundamental act of ‘seeing’. His work poses questions about not only the meaning of what is painted, but also what it means to have an ‘imaginative eye’.

Robert Bosisio was born in Trodena, North Italy in 1963. After graduating from The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he stayed in places such as Berlin, New York, and London to pursue his art. Currently, he works in his hometown, Trodena, Italy. He has held solo exhibitions in a range of institutions including the Museum Art Center Hugo Voeten in Antwerpen (Belgium, 2014), and Museul de Arta – Art Museum Cluj-Napoca (Romania, 2010), as well as in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the United States, and he is highly acclaimed worldwide. In 2011 he was awarded La Fenice Prize in Venice, and he exhibited his work in the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in the same year. In 2020 he was selected as one of the finalists of the BP Portrait Award 2020 (UK). Film director Wim Wenders, who has an extensive collection of Bosisio’s work, has long been a close friend and supporter of the artist.
